Emu Creek

Category: Trips, Carnage, Photos – Author: Glen – 10:54 am

Well, Jim and I went to Emu Creek some 4wd Monthly Forum members on the weekend, Emu Creek is about 3 1/2 hours drive from Brissy.

On the way there we went the ‘back’ way i guess and ended up having to rescue a car that had taken a corner to fast on the dirt and ended up in the bush…narrowly missing a decent size tree.  Jim just pulled slowly tugged hiim outa the bush, we made sure his car was still ok drive, and let him go on his way back to brisbane.

Once we got the Emu Creek, we setup camp (I got to test out my new Instant Tent, which i sell now BTW, and then found a couple of the 4wdMonthly lads and headed out for some 4×4ing.  The park really hasnt seen much use for a while, because most of the tracks were overgrown and looked very ‘fresh’.  After a while of driving around the park, a crazy old dude (Errol) that came with us decided he wanted to do a creek run that wasn’t on the map.  Was a very entertaining run with nasty side slopes and LOTS of rock…… Until… On a particularly tricky bit, Jim managed to pull one of his front radius arms OUT of the chassis!!

We manged to get it drivable quite quickly i think, we pretty much just jammed the radius rod back in the hole and used a ratchet strap to hold the front axle back so it wouldnt pop out again.  Jim then did one his best drives ever and pushed through the creek out to the road heading back to camp.

We then spent a couple hours welding Jims and Chris’s (4wd Monthly member with a Jeep Wrangler) cars back together.

Jim and I pushed off on Sunday morning, it was a quick trip, but still very fun!

Land Cruiser Mountain Park Trip

Went to Cruiser park on the weekend for a Patrol 4×4 Forum meet up. Was a great weekend!, had some good driving on the Sat and ended up watching Round 3 of WeRock on the Sunday. Talk about carnage!, Oddie and I picked a awesome spot because we saw a TON of roll overs, not side overs, we are talking full end over rolls. Very entertaining to watch, if you get a chance to check there guys out, take it!

Anyway heres some pics to prove i was there :)

Cityview 4×4 Park

Category: Trips, Carnage, Photos – Author: Glen – 7:17 pm

Went to Cityview 4×4 Park with the 4wd Monthly forum crowd, had a pretty good day, except i cant get to grips with the map there for the life of me.

I reakon ive got that place figured out, you pretty much have to pretend your not at a 4×4 park, but just on a trail somewhere, and that you cant seperate….ever!

Had a few issues, first Jim drove over some big tractor tyres and mushed his hand brake drum and guard, I flexed out and a rear spring came of the bottom seat, while Jim was attacking the brake drum guard with a club hammer and a screw driver, i cabled tied my spring back in place :)

After that we chased the group around the park for the rest of the day, not really ever being able to find them. During that process Jim somehow managed to jam a tree stump between his front axle housing and tie rod. We ended up dropping one end of the tierod off and driving forward, reattaching tierod, and then reversing out of the way…

After that we caught up with a couple blokes driving hilux’s and drove “Jeepers Jumpup” which is one of the harder tracks in the park (also one able easily identified on the map)

Heres a few pics of a mate of mine (Jim)

Springs 4×4 Park

Category: Trips, Carnage, Photos – Author: Glen – 8:30 am

Went out for our first visit to Springs 4×4 Park, I really liked it, the tracks were rated spot on, the map was ‘reasonably’ easy to follow and best of all the owner / operator is a good bloke.

4 Vehicles were in the group this time, a Jeep Wrangler, a Mitsubishi Challenger, Jim’s GU and my new Ute :D

We ended up staying at Lake Leslie near Warwick because the camp sites at the park were completely booked out for the weekend.  This place also had very friendly owners!.

There was a reasonable amount of carnage straight of the bat, with the Wrangler staking a sidewall on a nice new BFG, and the Challenger getting stuck in a creek bed and pushing the exhaust back under the car.

I was having hassles with the power steering overheating a fading to the point of being useless, and Jim managed to mush a few few panels on some of the tighter tracks.

But all in all i had a good weekend, and will go back there as soon as i can manage it!
